In the Burhaniye district of Balıkesir, the 4th Traditional Tourism Festival was organized within the scope of the April 15–22 Tourism Week celebrations.

Balıkesir University (BAÜN) Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, Burhaniye District Governor İlyas Memiş, Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Oğuzhan İlban and other officials attended the festival hosted by the Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences.

During the event, Oğurlu, Memiş and İlban pounded keşkek accompanied by drums and clarinet. The protocol members attending the event also forged iron with a sledgehammer.

Throughout the festival, folk dance performances were appreciated, while an award-winning cooking competition among the faculty’s gastronomy students created excitement.

Workshops prepared by the students such as hamburger bread making, wood printing, natural vinegar production, breathing techniques, olive oil tasting, cologne making in cooperation with the Balıkesir Farmer Training and Medicinal Aromatic Plants Center (BAÇEM), pastry and simit making, and non-alcoholic cocktail workshops attracted the attention of the participants. In addition, a DJ performance and various destination promotion stands added color to the festival.

BAÜN Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu made important evaluations in the panel titled “The Power, Depth/Scope of Turkish and the Issue of a Common Language” held at the Martyr Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz Conference Hall.

The event also included a painting exhibition prepared by Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences students and a tourism knowledge quiz. Participants of the program were served çiğköfte prepared by the students as well as keşkek, rice, salad, dessert, cookies and basil sherbet.

Rector Oğurlu told the AA correspondent that Burhaniye is one of the distinguished corners of Balıkesir.

Expressing his satisfaction with the intense participation of students in the events and their projects, Oğurlu said, “Our young people set up their stands and exhibited the products they produced themselves, from gastronomy to handicrafts. It is a source of pride for us that they continue in applied sciences in a manner worthy of our university.”

İlban added that they are happy to take part in Tourism Week organized every year and stated that they will continue their activities as a university.
