Pirge Knife Academy Training Seminar Held in Burhaniye
A seminar titled “Pirge Knife Academy” was organized in Burhaniye with the contribution of Balıkesir University Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences (BUBFA). The event was attended by Prof. Dr. M. Oğuzhan İlban, Acting Dean of the Faculty; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Solunoğlu, Vice Dean; Lect. Kaya Nihat Pekbay; Asst. Prof. Dr. Oğuzhan Dülgaroğlu, Coordinator of the BUBFA Alumni Employment Office; as well as students from the Departments of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Management.
The seminar, designed to enhance the professional competencies of chefs and culinary students, featured Tankut Paçacı and Sadık Doğan, training specialists from Pirge, a company with more than 140 years of experience in cutlery. The guest speakers provided detailed information on the structure of knives, proper holding techniques, types of knives according to kitchen usage, color coding, and the significance of knife skills in cutting techniques. They also shared insights on pastry cutting tools and explained key points about knife sharpening and cleaning.
Students had the opportunity to learn knife-sharpening techniques through hands-on practice, after which they were gifted Pirge knives. In addition, students who correctly answered questions posed by the trainers were awarded chef’s knives.
Addressing the students, Prof. Dr. M. Oğuzhan İlban, Acting Dean of the Faculty, stated:
“A knife is an essential extension of a chef’s body. A true chef is one who becomes one with their knife. As a faculty, we will continue to organize many more seminars to provide you with the best possible education. We sincerely thank Pirge’s training specialists, Mr. Tankut Paçacı and Mr. Sadık Doğan, for their valuable contributions.”
The event concluded with the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to the guest speakers by Prof. Dr. M. Oğuzhan İlban.
