In Burhaniye, students of Balıkesir University Faculty of Applied Sciences participated in an olive oil dish tasting event at the Ayvalık Cunda Practice Hotel during Turkish Cuisine Promotion Week. The event was attended by Acting Dean of Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences (BUBFA) Prof. Dr. M. Oğuzhan İlban, Lecturer K. Nihat Pekbay, and students of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department.
During the event, BUBFA students received information from the famous chefs of the Gulf region about the herbs grown in the region and tasted the olive oil dishes prepared by the chefs. In addition, BUBFA students and high school students came together at the event and exchanged information by holding a talk about gastronomy science and professional career opportunities.
Acting Dean of BUBFA, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Oğuzhan İlban, said, “The Gulf region has an important place in the field of gastronomy both in terms of olive oil production and the herbs grown in the region. Being aware of this, we try to instill this knowledge in our students, whom we see as the chefs of the future. Within this framework, we have previously participated in many activities related to the field of gastronomy in order for our students to develop. In addition, as the BUBFA family, we believe that we will be the voice of the Gulf Region in this field by carrying out important projects related to gastronomy. I would like to thank my students for their interest and participation in the event.”
