BUBYO–BAÇEM Collaboration in Burhaniye
In Burhaniye, the work initiated under the cooperation protocol recently signed between Balıkesir University Burhaniye School of Applied Sciences (BUBYO) and the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality’s Balıkesir Farmers Training Center (BAÇEM) continues rapidly.
A delegation from BUBYO, consisting of Prof. Dr. M. Oğuzhan İlban, Director of the School, and faculty members of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts — Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muammer Bezirgan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Solunoğlu, and Lect. Kaya Nihat Pekbay — visited Nazım Tünrıkulu, Director of BAÇEM, to observe the ongoing activities on site.
It was noted that preparations for the “Gastronomy Garden”, where aromatic herbs and spices to be used in gastronomy students’ “from seed to harvest” learning experience will be cultivated, are progressing as planned. The area, which will be named “Gastrobaçem”, will feature various products to be used in gastronomy education, and ideas were exchanged regarding the types of plants to be grown.
Sharing his views on the collaboration, Prof. Dr. M. Oğuzhan İlban, Director of BUBYO, stated:
“We continue our work in line with the motto ‘A University Integrated with Its City’. Together with our esteemed colleagues, we followed up on the ongoing activities under the cooperation protocol we signed with BAÇEM. We are very pleased that soon we will be able to showcase our products both at Gastrobaçem and in the BUBYO kitchen. It will be a source of pride for us that our students and the guests visiting our Training and Application Facility will also be part of this experience. In this way, we will both bring Balıkesir’s unique regional products to all corners of Türkiye and promote them through our volunteer ambassadors. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this valuable initiative.”
