BUBFA Continues to Engage with the City Through Gastronomy
The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at Balıkesir University Burhaniye Faculty of Applied Sciences (BUBFA) provided full support to the 22nd International Sındırgı Yağcıbedir Flying Carpet Festival, organized by Sındırgı Municipality.
The festival featured a wide range of events, with participation from Prof. Dr. Mehmet Oğuzhan İlban, Acting Dean of BUBFA; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muammer Bezirgan; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Solunoğlu; Lect. Kaya Nihat Pekbay; and Mithat Oruç, the chef of the Faculty’s Training and Application Facility, all serving as members of the jury panel.
Expressing his pleasure in contributing to the festival, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Oğuzhan İlban stated:
“Just as Mayor Ekrem Yavaş made the Yağcıbedir Carpet of Sındırgı fly, the people of Sındırgı have made their flavors soar as well. We hope that the traditional dishes presented here are being passed down to younger generations. As BUBFA faculty members serving as jury members in the cooking competitions, we must say it was very difficult to choose the winners.
Our efforts will continue until Türkiye attains the position it deserves in the field of gastronomy. On this occasion, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Ekrem Yavaş, Mayor of Sındırgı, and everyone who contributed to this wonderful organization.”
